Saturday Digest Awards

Saturday Digest is instituting Cash Awards for the best writer among the Non Resident Indians and for a best Malayalee blogger exclusively from the Gulf region. The awards will be presented to the winners at their place of work or present settlement.Terms and Conditions

Any Indian national working abroad is eligible for consideration to Saturday Digest Best Writer Award 2008 if he/she is a born writer. The award will be presented to a work irrespective of novel, short story, drama or poetry. No works that are non-fictional in nature will be considered for the award. The works to be considered for the award should be translated to English or to Malayalam and then only submitted.
Any Keralite working in the Gulf region is eligible for consideration to Saturday Digest Best Blogger Award 2008 if he/she is a born Malayalee active in blogging. The award will be presented to the best Malayalam Blog published from the Gulf only will be considered.No Blogs that are non-fictional in nature and that do not contribute to healthy friendship and conveyance of civilized informations will be considered for the award. A minimum of 350 hits per day should be there for such blogs.

The awards will consist of a Cash Award, Citation and a Memento. The awards will be presented to the winners of each catagory at their place of work on a day appointed by the Saturday Digest Award Committee. The representatives from the Award Committee and the Management of the Saturday Digest will be personally presenting the awards.

M.K. Harikumar is now as famous as Salman Rushdie, in one way. The latter is globally known among the literary circles for his controversial book while the former is now a cult figure among the Malayalee Blogging community across the world. Both came to limelight through controversies. And both are genuine and staggeringly devoted to their personal values and creativity.
Harikumar created a sensation for the first time in India in the internet blogging community as a Malayalee, as he is well known as a sharp critic and seasoned writer with experience in publishing, journalism and blogging.
But sadly, the print media in India, leave alone Kerala, remains ignorant of the day-to-day developments of the information super highway of the digital world. It was there where Harikumar created a niche of his own through his personal blog called Aksharajaalakam. And it was there the Malayalee bloggers from the Gulf planned a hartal of a sort protesting on Harikumar's freedom of expression. That is news to the media who do objective journalism than gossip-journalism.
The events leading to an imminent hartal on internet by the bloggers would have affected none other than themselves, had not the name of a prestigious Malayalam Weekly published in Kerala was dragged into sentiments of the particular blogging community. Incidentaly, Harikumar has been contributing a regular column with the same name "Aksharajalakam" to that publication, and the bloggers took it for granted as Harikumar was "provoked" to some extent by the said publication to whom he was contributing his columns. And the Malyalaee Bloggers from the Gulf burned the copies of the said publication in which Harikumar's columns came, in open air! Nonsense.
When the bloggers decided to boycott blogging, news traveled faster to some print media who genuinely showed their nose for news. A little investigation would have revealed the things so-called NRI-malayalees, do in the name of nationalism, and that too where civilized humans are more than than the "imported cheap labor force".
This writer was also an NRI and had been doing healthy blogging for more than six years. Never in my experience have I seen a community of NRI bloggers like the one that boycotted the publication in question in the picture and to raise arms against the person who contributed a column to it just to earn his living.
What such bloggers do think is that blogs are a kind of open podium where you can shout any nonsense that is otherwise legally punishable. They simply take blogging as a written version of chat room. Blogging is not the vehicle for the time-killers. Blogging is awesome, and money building source to many, if not for the ones who act like street vandals.
Thanks to Harikumar for keeping his back bone that helps him stand erect to his values. Thanks to the newspaper that carried this internet event in its "news-value" than anything else. And thanks to the Malayalam publication for keeping a low profile in this issue so far. The publication does not realize what mileage it will get in the coming days. How sad.

വാസ്‌തവത്തില്‍ ഹരികുമാര്‍ സംഭവത്തിന്റെ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ വസ്‌തുതകളെ ഇനിയെങ്കിലും പരിശോധിക്കാതിരിക്കുന്നത്‌ വലിയ തെറ്റായിരിക്കുമെന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു.

ഹരികുമാര്‍ ബ്ലോഗിന്‌ എതിരല്ല.

അയാള്‍ രണ്ടു മാസം കൊണ്ട്‌ നൂറ്‌ പോസ്‌റ്റുകള്‍ ഇട്ടു. ആര്‍ക്കും ചെയ്യാനാകാത്തത്‌.നസീര്‍ കടിക്കാട്‌, രാജന്‍ വേങ്ങര, വല്യമ്മായി, പേര്‌ പേരക്ക,ഉറുമ്പുകള്‍, നിര്‍മ്മല, അഞ്ചല്‍ക്കാരന്‍, എ. ആര്‍ നജിം തുടങ്ങി എത്രയോ പേര്‍ക്ക്‌ ഹരികുമാര്‍ പോസ്റ്റുകള്‍ ഇട്ടു.പണം വാങ്ങി പലയിടങ്ങളിലും എഴുതുന്ന അയാള്‍ എന്തിന്‌ വെറുതെ പോസ്റ്റുകളിട്ട്‌ സമയം കളഞ്ഞു.?ധനനഷ്ടം ഉറപ്പാണെന്ന് അയാള്‍ക്ക്‌ അറിയാതിരിക്കുമോ.അപ്പോള്‍ അയാള്‍ ബ്ലോഗിനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു എന്നത്‌ വലിയ സത്യമാണ്‌..പലരുടെയും പേരില്‍ പോസ്റ്റുകള്‍ ഇട്ടത്‌ , സ്വന്തം ബ്ലോഗ്‌ പ്രശസ്തമാവാനാണെന്ന് , ബ്ലോഗ്‌ ചെയ്യുന്നവരെങ്കിലും പറയരുത്‌. കാരണം ബ്ലോഗ്‌ പ്രശസ്തമായാലും ഹരികുമാറിന്‌ അത്‌ ഒരു ലാഭവും കൊടുക്കില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ അയാള്‍ ആ സമയവും പണവും പ്രിന്റു മീഡിയയ്ക്ക്‌ വേണ്ടി ഉപയോഗിച്ചാല്‍ അതിലിരട്ടി അയാള്‍ക്ക്‌ തിരിച്ചു കിട്ടും.പണത്തിന്റെ വിലയറിയാവുന്ന പ്രവാസി മലയാളികളോട്‌ ഇത്‌ പറയണോ?ഇത്‌ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടാണ്‌ സനാതനന്‍ ഹരികുമാറിന്റെ ഇടപെടലിനെ നല്ല രീതിയില്‍ വിലയിരുത്തിയതെന്ന് ഞാന്‍ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നു.

എന്തുകൊണ്ട്‌ ഹരികുമാര്‍ ചിലര്‍ക്ക്‌ അനഭിമതനായി?

ഹരികുമാറിന്റെ പോസ്റ്റുകളില്‍ കമന്റ്‌ എന്ന ഓപ്ഷന്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച്‌ ചിലര്‍ അയാളുടെ വ്യക്തിപരമായ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളെ വിമര്‍ശിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി.അതായത്‌, പത്രത്തിലേ പണി, ഖസാക്കിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസത്തെപ്പറ്റിയുള്ള വിമര്‍ശനകൃതി തുടങ്ങിയവ. ഇത്‌ അന്നത്തെ ചര്‍ച്ചകള്‍ വായിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക്‌ അറിയാം. ഹരികുമാര്‍ എത്രയോ സീനിയറാണെന്ന ചിന്ത മറന്ന് , ബ്ലോഗ്‌ എന്നാല്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ സ്വന്തം മേഖലയാണ്‌ എന്ന അഹങ്കാരത്തില്‍ ചിലര്‍ മുന്നോട്ട്‌ വരുകയാണ്‌ ചെയ്തത്‌.ഇതില്‍ മുന്നില്‍ നിന്നത്‌ ഗുപ്തനാണ്‌. ഇതിന്‌ തെളിവുണ്ട്‌.മാത്രമല്ല, ഇത്‌ ഒരു ഗൂഡാലോചനയാണോയെന്നും സശയിക്കുന്ന അനേകം ബ്ലോഗര്‍മാരുണ്ട്‌.കാരണം ഹരികുമാര്‍ അവതാരിക എഴുതി സഹായിച്ച കുഴൂര്‍ വില്‍സന്‍ , ഹരികുമാര്‍ നൂറ്‌ പോസ്റ്റ്‌ തികച്ചിട്ടും പ്രതികരിച്ചില്ല. അതുവരെ അയാള്‍ ഒരു കമന്റു പോലും ഇട്ടില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ ഗുപ്തന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയവരുമായി ഹരികുമാര്‍ തര്‍ക്കത്തില്‍ ഏര്‍പ്പെട്ടതോടെ വില്‍സന്‍ കമന്റിട്ടത്‌ ഹരികുമാറിനെ ഓര്‍ത്ത്‌ ലജ്ജിക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ്‌. ഇതാണ്‌ ശരിയായ ഗൂഡാലോചന.

ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാന്‍ ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ഹരികുമാര്‍ ഒരു നല്ല ബ്ലോഗറാണ്‌.അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ അയാള്‍ ഇവിടെ വരില്ലായിരുന്നു.അയാളുടെ പോസ്റ്റുകളിലെ അക്ഷരത്തെറ്റുകള്‍ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി അയാളെ വെറുക്കുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ അത്‌ ഒരു അജണ്ടയുടെ ഭാഗമായിരിക്കും.അയാളെ ചിലരുടെ സ്വന്തം ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ വേണ്ടി പുകച്ചുചാടിക്കാന്‍ നില്‍ക്കുന്നവര്‍ക്ക്‌ നമ്മള്‍ എല്ലാവരും ചേര്‍ന്ന് കുടപിടിക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ടോ?സംശയമുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക്‌ ഹരികുമാറിനെ വിളിച്ച്‌ ചോദിച്ച്‌ പോസ്റ്റുകളിടാമായിരുന്നു. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ നമ്മള്‍ ചെയ്യുന്നത്‌ ചരിത്രപരമായ വിഡ്ഡിത്തമായിരിക്കും.തീര്‍ച്ച.

ഹരികുമാറിനെ പൂര്‍ണമായി ന്യായീകരിക്കാന്‍ ഞാനില്ല.എന്നാല്‍ അയാള്‍ നല്ല പോസ്റ്റ്‌ ഇട്ടില്ല എന്ന് ആര്‍ക്ക്‌ പറയാനൊക്കും. അയാളുടെ പോസ്റ്റില്‍ നല്ലതെന്ന് അയാള്‍ക്ക്‌ തോന്നുന്നത്‌ അല്ലേ കൊടുക്കുക. ഇവിടെ ആരാണ്‌ നല്ല പോസ്റ്റുകള്‍ ഇടുന്നത്‌,?എത്രയോ മോശം എഴുത്തുകള്‍ വന്നുപോകുന്നു.ബ്ലോഗില്‍ മുന്തിയതരം എഴുത്തിനല്ല പ്രസക്തി. സ്ഥിര സാന്നിധ്യത്തിനാണ്‌.
അഭിമാനമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ട്‌, ഇന്നത്തെ ചുറ്റുപാടില്‍ കമന്റ്‌ ഓപ്ഷന്‍ തരാന്‍ എനിക്ക്‌ നിവൃത്തിയില്ല. എന്നാല്‍ ബ്ലോഗ്‌ ജയിക്കട്ടെ .സനാതനന്റെ പോസ്റ്റിന്‌ അനുബബ്ധമായി ഇതു വായിക്കപ്പെടുമെന്ന് കരുതട്ടെ.
